La Vampire

A book first published in 1824 by the Baron Étienne-Léon de Lamothe-Langon - aka LA MOTHE-HOUDANCOURT(1786-1864)



Summary :


Edouard Delmont is a young soldier in the French army during Napoleon`s wars. During his battles along Europe, Hungary offers him for a short while the peace of a shared love, but in the end he has to o back to war. One year is enough for him to became a colonel but also to forget about his beloved. Ha marries and has two lovely kids. He lives happily in Paris until the end of 1815 when a letter that comes from Germany will change everything. Without telling his wife what is all about, he retires from the army, sells everything and moves with his entire family to the south of France where he buys a little home somewhere in the countryside near Toulouse.The things get better again but another letter obliges him to leave for Nantes where his ill sister needs him.
While he is gone, his wife meets a young and beautiful woman, a stranger who leaves in the vicinity.They befriend and because the house of the stranger lady burns to pieces, lady Delmont offers her shelter.
When Edouard comes back he is stunned to find out that the stranger lady is no one else but his Hungarian lover, Lady Alinksa.
While his children die in strange circumstances and his wife gets terribly ill, Edouard seems to be more and more attracted by Alinska. After the death of his wife, Delmont asks Alinska to be his bride. The Hungarian beauty accepts but on the condition of a civil wedding only.
In short time she is revealed to be a vampire but Delmont can`t be saved and dies.
